Tongan electricians trained on solar light use

     Local electricians, both from the private and the public sectors attended two days training on the use and installation of LEDT8 & Solar Street Lights here in Nuku’alofa on December 9-10.

    The Technical Training was conducted to help strengthen the technical capacity of Tongan electricians, with selected participants from various electrical companies in the private sectors in Tonga at the O.G Sanft Building.

    The LED T8 & Solar Street Lights Technical Training is part of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the National Development and Reform Commission of the People’s Republic of China and the Government of Tonga on November 22, 2014, which formalised the provision of “Goods for Addressing Climate Change”.

    That included the provision of the new LED (Light Emitting Diode), which is aimed at helping in the reduction in power consumption in Tonga.

    On the first day, 19 participants from various private electrical companies (electric contractors) attended the training and they were introduced to the working principles of the technologies, full system and the installation work. 

    On the second day the Chinese Technical Expertise conducted a demonstration of installing the system using the new technologies, followed by the participants who were tasked to use the same demonstration while they were being supervised by the experts.

    The suppliers Shanxi Guanyn LED Lighting Co Ltd of China provided with three representatives - Mr. Zhang ZhiYuan (Engineer), Mr. Wang Yue (Sales Manager) and Ms Li Yanhong (Sales Manager).

    They supplied some LED Solar Street Lights. 

    The other manufacturer was the Zhejiang Yankon Group Ltd, China, with three representatives - Fang Jiawei, Pan Junbo and Ren Bihong.

    The company supplied the LED tubes and LED bulbs.

    The training was hosted by the Ministry of Meteorology, Energy, Information, Disaster Management, Environment, Climate Change and Communications through its Energy Department.
